LET US CLARIFY

General Questions

What is the earliest I can have my child do gymnastics?

Gymnastics can generally be enjoyed at any age.  We recommend 2 years and up.  Important to note is that the amount of actual gymnastics relates to the physical development of each child.  Certain activities should not be done at younger age due to physical limitations of the musculoskeletal of the children.  Gymnastics lessons at Gymnastics World are tailored for exactly that reason to ensure safety of the children in their journey.

Will Gymnastics stunt my child's growth?

Every once in a while we hear this myth of gymnastics making you short.  Many parents have serious concerns and we are here to tell you that fortunately, that is not true.  The fact about the growth of a child has everything todo with their genetics, medical conditions affecting hormones, and of course nutrition.  The reason why this myth became a common misconception is that almost ALL Olympians and top gymnasts we come to know are short.  that is because the best gymnasts are the ones who have to be fast and agile.  That makes it easier for short people to become better and beat the taller slower gymnasts at competitions.  With the same misconception and ideology, we know that basketball does not make people tall.  We only see tall people excelling in that sport.

It must be mentioned however that there are several tall gymnasts that have made it to the top level of gymnastics and several short people who have been in NBA basketball championships.  However, the general percentage is very low and the majority of athletes fit the norm.

So, if you as the parents are 5 feet tall, and expect your child to be 6 foot 11, then you will be disappointed that you have only given your child a limited amount of height gene and if they do gymnastics or basketball, they will most likely be somewhere in the range of 4 foot 10 to 5 foot 2.

What should my child wear?

Avoid any loose clothing, no strings clothes, no zippers, no buttons, no pockets etc.  The best clothing for gymnastics is a gymnastics leotard.  if you do not have one, please wear a tight T-shirt and tight leggings or shorts.

How often are the classes?

The classes are generally one hour long and you sign up for each class individually.

Can I signup for more than one class?

The classes are generally one hour long and taught by various coaching staff.  You can sign up for each class individually.  You can add additional classes to come multiple times per week.  Of course, the additional classes will have their own charges, but you will get a discount for adding new days.

I have a friend or family member, can they come in?

No one except for the enrolled students who actively have a scheduled class may be inside the activity area.  If you have a friend or a family member visiting and you would like them to join the class, they must have a guardian fill out and sign the liability form.

My friends/family's mom is not present, can I sign?

Since the forms at Gymnastics World are legal documents, no one except for the actual legal guardien is allowed to fill out and sign.

What if my child is sick and I bring them to gym?

If your child is sick and there is the slightest risk of anyone such as coaches or other students getting sick, we ask you to please not bring your child to the gym.  If we notice a sick child we may remove them from class and ask you to take them home. We have many children at the gym with many grand parents, and small siblings living at home, who could seriously ill.  Please help us out in this matter.

What if my child is abusive or disruptive?

If the member is abusive and disruptive towards other students, staff or members of Gymnastics World, we may excuse you from the facility and in some cases permanently ban you from any activities in the future without a refund.
Tuition Questions

Why are some months more expensive than others?

Tuition rates at Gymnastics World are based on how many weeks each month has. Normal rates are based on 4 weeks. The additional 5th week will be added to your tuition when applicable. Therefore your tuition rate and the amount charged on your card may or may not vary from one month to the other.
Example:  If your class is on a Wednesday, you will be charged for 5 weeks in July (in the example bellow) and 4 weeks in August.
Two calendars side by side demonstrating that Wednesday has 5 weeks on some months and 4 weeks in others

What if I miss a class?

You are assigned a specific day and time with your enrollment. If you miss the scheduled time for ANY REASON we do not offer a refund or reschedule that missed class. Just like with school.

If you miss a scheduled class due to any reason you will forfeit that lesson. There will be no makeup, credits or discounts given. If however, your specific training day falls on a holiday where the gym must close, then you will get a makeup lesson to off set that lesson that was not taken.

Why do you not offer Makeup Classes?

Effective January 1, 2022 GW has discontinued and no longer offers makeup lessons due to missed classes. This courtesy has been abused throughout the years to such an extent that we will no longer extend this courtesy at our facilities. We had to spend countless hours every day trying to find a suitable class for those who missed and even after find a class the clients would either not show or want to make up a make up class.  At the end of the day we still could not please those who missed.  We spent more time dealing with everyones schedule instead of doing what we are best at, teaching children.  Please give us the same respect you give your schools.  When you miss a class you do not ask the teachers or principal to put your child in another class or grade.  You make a choice.  Commit to your schedule and if it doesn't work please let us know and we gladly change your day and time into another class to fit your schedules you can commit to your child's gymnastics lessons.

Team Questions

Is competitive gymnastics for anyone?

At Gymnastics World we believe that team gymnastics has a tremendous amount of benefits for young children.  Participation in a competitive program builds self-reliance, confidence, and a much stronger character.  However, that requires the cooperation of the family involved with the journey. of the young athletes.  The burden usually falls on the parents to allocate the time, dedication, and financial obligation that goes with participating in competitive programs.  If the parents can afford the time and money, we can confidently get the young children to compete.  The requirements are explained in our Team section of the website.

What is the youngest age you accept into the team program?

Starting the journey to the team should not be rushed, as the children need to have unrestricted fun and experimentation at early ages.  We recommend the earliest exposure to our team program at the age of 5 1/2.  We start them on our Pre Team classes and slowly work with them on the concepts of training vs playground activity.  They learn, discipline, self-motivation and build the desire to be competitive and perform.

What is the earliest age the kids can compete in gymnastics?

The youngest age we allow to compete is 6 years of age.  They must be competent at the beginning level to compete.  We want them to have a great time while performing without the anxiety of unpreparedness.

I want my child to be an Olympian, now what?

As professional accomplished individuals in this sport having experienced the process and international championship-level gymnastics we understand that many facts about top-level athletic careers are overlooked by the average population. There is a hefty cost involved with being in the top 1% in any field in life.  Sometimes the cost is not justified with the means.  Sometimes the individual has the dream but is unwilling to pay the price of sacrifice, pain, disappointment, injuries, doubt, and a million other things.  In our opinion, the entire family must be supportive of this move and aware of what realities and hurdles they must overcome to be considered one of the 6 top athletes to represent the country.  Talk to Coach Freddy about this topic if you need more clarifications.

How expensive is being part of a competitive gymnastics team?

The benefits of being a part of our gymnastics team far outweigh the cost.  You should look at it as an investment in your child's well-being and future potential in other areas of life.
The competitive team tuition costs range from $350-$650 per month depending on the level and hours of training.  We honor those who are committed to excellence and give a discount for each level improved and every hour added to the training.  So it is not a linear scale and you will pay less per hour the higher you are in levels and the more you participate.
Additionally, there are competition expenses, such as uniforms, competition entry fees, federation fees, and travel fees.  Competition-related fees can range between $1500-$4000 per year depending on the level of competition and the amount of travel out of state.

How can I join the Gymnastics World competitive team program?

We host an official tryout each year in May.
Individual tryouts during the year must be scheduled with the head coach. If you are interested in being evaluated, please let our office know and we will guide you further.  Meanwhile, visit the Team section of our website for more deatails.

We are leaving another gym and want to join the team at Gymnastics World.  What is the process?

We are aware that not every gym is the right fit for every athlete.  We know that sometimes disagreements or difference in objective and values may cause you to want to change gyms.  It is important that you are aware that hopping gyms is not always the best choice for your young athletes.  The change and shift must be done with integrity and appreciation of the gym you are leaving behind.

We at Gymnastics World are very protective of our happy, supportive, and healthy culture.  We truly foster a healthy family atmosphere and love every individual family and they love each other.  It's our culture to be united and one.  Therefore, you must be approved by our parent liaison to discuss joining the team.

Some families love drama and some teams love to foster drama at the gym.  We don't.  We love a healthy and peaceful environment.  If that sounds like a home you'd like to be a part of let us know.
